Between 1948 and 1964 the Livingstone Museum (as it is now called) published a series of sixteen Occasional Papers. Conceived simply as guides to the collections in the museum, the papers were contributed by outside specialists who drew upon their own research, and in every case the results far surpassed the original modest aim. Most of the papers remain as important today as when they first appeared, and in many cases still provide the only published information on their subject. Despite reprinting of individual titles in response to continued demand, nearly all have long been out of print. This one-volume edition of the complete set makes them available again in convenient format, with improved quality of reproduction. It provides a valuable record af an important period for research in Zambia and an essential source of information about the country's traditional culture and history.
